Kenny left us with an expansive body of work within the basic groupings of Paperweights and Square Glass Vessels, some of which are featured on this website. (His “historic” works from the 70’s & 80’s are not included here at this time). To help you better understand the subtleties in each piece we have organized works with specific identifying terminology, described here.
Square Glass Vessels
Exceptionally Collectable.
These are gallery/museum quality pieces that are indicative of Kenny’s most complex and inspired work. The work is noteworthy for its complex color, knowledge of glass properties and layered drawing techniques using his own pulled cane applied to the form while on the blowpipe.
Good-Fortune.
These works are gallery quality and reflect an endless variety, using different kinds of glass such as Aventurine (copper effects), and special glass techniques with gold leaf, silver “clouds”, iridescent effects, lusters, frits & powders. Look for designs with repetitions, opaque or translucent effects in these works
Whimsies.
Kenny had a great sense of playfulness with his work, and he follows in the tradition of glassmakers to create “end-of-day” experimentations in the studio.
Paperweights
Glory Hole.
Out of the heat come these glorious orbs, making a whole, mesmerizing world in your hand. Many have unusual raised glass surfaces, or designs embedded in successive layers. All used his own pulled colored and latticino (twisted) canes of glass, for riots of color and detail.
Drawing with glass.
Kenny’s vocabulary and humor comes through, using signs and symbols drawn with great variety - fiddlehead fern leaves, pitchforks, numbers & letters, the flying X, sea creatures, the eternal spiral.
Elemental.
These allude to nature through special glass properties of reflection and refraction of light. Repetitive dots suggest egg clusters, stones and agates. Kenny created textures and patterns through obsessive mark-making.
